MNEMOSYNE
In Greek mythology Mnemosyne is the ‘Goddess of Memory’ and is the Mother of the Muses.

Whenever i create a series of Magikalchild images with someone, i allow the hand of chance to decide the fate of their outcome and meaning. In the truest sense of the word, it is a form of Magic & Divination combined into one creative process. Paula is the model in these pictures, she has lived here in Valencia her whole life, and as we shot the images around the area called ‘El Carmen’, she told me tales of the various artists she knew who had created all the amazing art and graffiti around the city. She showed me places she played as a child, and areas where bohemians used to gather to collude in their creative endeavours. We had a wonderful time laughing, telling tales, and taking photos. At no point during the process am i thinking of any concepts or ideas, i simply allow the process to unfold as it will, with no expectations.

It is only when i am back home editing the images {no AI is involved, only free basic editing tools} that a theme begins to immerge, an idea, a concept begins to formulate. From the basic images a magical spell begins to take shape, a form of Talismanic Art that draws from the persons soul force, and creates an artistic expression here in the world of the waking.

When the images are edited, i send them to the model/person i am working with, and allow them to gaze back at themselves. With varied ritualistic suggestions i ask them to perform, they invoke the Deity or Intention set in the images, thereby generating a transformational process within the person’s life, the results of which are truly synchronistic and miraculous.

The title of this Magikalchild Series is MNEMOSYNE, reflecting both the remembering and forgetting of past events, that bleed through history and yet still manages to manifest in the modern landscape. Once recalled they can then be drawn from and acted upon.

The consort I invoke of Jove [Zeus] divine, source of the holy, sweetly-speaking Nine;
Free from th’ oblivion of the fallen mind, by whom the soul with intellect is join’d:
Reason’s increase, and thought to thee belong, all-powerful, pleasant, vigilant, and strong:
‘Tis thine, to waken from lethargic rest all thoughts deposited within the breast;
